The New Arrima Draw In Québec Issues 306 Invitations

In the detail released by the Québec’s immigration ministry in the draw held on February 24, the province invited about 306 skilled workers to apply for permanent selection.

The invitations were issued by the Ministere de 1’Immigration, de la Francisation et de 1’Integration (MIFI) to candidates applying through the Quebec Regular Skilled Worker Program (QSWP).

The candidates that were issued these invitations had to have profiles in the Arrima Expression of Interest System and have a minimum score of 630 points and they were required to have a valid job offer outside of the Montreal Metropolitan area.

The draw that was held on February 24 was the fourth of the year for the province and this brought the number of invitation in 2022 so far to 1,663. In 2021, the total number of invitations issued by the province was 3,564.

The Quebec Regular Skilled Worker Program

The QSWP allows foreign workers who are most likely to establish themselves economically in Québec to come to the province. The program is for skilled workers and international graduates who wish to immigrate to Québec permanently to work.

Candidates are evaluated and assessed based on their education and professional skill, age, language proficiency and ability to stay in Québec.

Candidates who were invited to apply for permanent selection were given a maximum of 60 days to submit their application and also pay processing fees. Quebec aims to process complete application within six months from the date all the required information is received.

Candidates that are successful will get a Certificat de selection du Quebec (CSQ or Quebec Selection Certificate). They can then use this document issued to apply for permanent residence in Canada.

There are different system that are used to assess anyone that wants to settle in Québec as the province has its own way of doing things unlike the other provinces in Canada.

Quebec’s immigration programs are administered by the province and are far different from Canada’s immigration programs.

Quebec Immigration Target For 2022

Quebec released its immigration target for 2022 in October 2021 and it is expecting that most newcomers will come through the province’s economic immigration programs which include Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP) and the Quebec experience program (PEQ).

This year, it is expecting to welcome about 49,500 to 52,500 immigrants in all the immigration categories and also an additional 18,000 to reach the admission levels that were not met by the federal government in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With this immigration target, about 70,000 newcomers will be expected to come to Quebec in 2022.
